About

About this blog - why?
The Percy Jackson books are a great read.  They are funny, action packed, fast moving and can motivate reluctant boys to read.  They can be very educational.  Then in book 9 we find one of the central characters is gay.

Some people are shocked and will never read a book by this author again.

Most kids reading these books in the twenty-first century will be completely un-phased by this development (unlike their parents).

I am an adult (in my 40s), a reader of the books and a parent.
I want to put something thoughtful online in support of the books and this character development.

Actually I want to go further.  I want to shake the author, Rick Riodhan by the hand and say thank you for representing gay feelings in the same way as any other - perfectly normal and perfectly acceptable for children's literature.

If you have not read the Percy Jackson books yet, I will try to reveal very little of the plot so you can still enjoy the books.  The films, by the way, are very different, scripts were not written by RR and the story is very different to that in the books.

I intend to keep adding to this for as long as RR keeps writing.  Lets see who runs out of things to say first.
